Tips for decorating
We talked with Cristina about the exciting world of decoration, while we enjoyed together setting a very spring-like table in green tones.
First of all, we would like to know a little more about you...
Who is Cristina Larrumbe and how was Trucos para Decorar born?
Cristina is passionate about design and decoration, but she didn't develop her talents until she completed a Master's in Digital Marketing, after having studied Business Administration and Management, and opened her Instagram account @trucosparadecorar. What was initially a source of inspiration gradually grew due to the requests from those closest to her to help them with their decoration projects. After seeing that what she did had a positive impact on them, she decided that her passion for decoration could become her profession. And so it was, she trained by taking another Master's in Interior Design and Decoration and took the plunge, leaving her old job to dedicate herself solely and exclusively to Trucos Para Decorar.
Where do you get inspiration to offer ideas and tips for decorating rooms or dressing tables?
Where I usually look for inspiration is mainly on Pinterest. However, I am subscribed to all the Architecture, Design, Decoration, etc. magazines, as well as other Instagram profiles, from which I get ideas and advice, not only for decorating spaces and dressing tables, but for everything in general.

Let’s talk about some of your surefire tricks…
Where to start planning the decoration of a room? What are the main factors to decide on the rest?
The starting point when it comes to decorating a space is to think about its layout; that it is a practical and functional space. From here, look for furniture that is suitable and proportional to the room. For example, placing a very large sofa can make a very good impression, but it is useless if the rest of the elements do not fit and, consequently, it hinders circulation and other things.
When you dress a table, what do you think is the key to success and surprising your guests?
I think that when setting a table, the key to success is to have a good centerpiece that is eye-catching, but at the same time matches the tablecloth, napkins and dishes, as well as not taking up too much space to bring the food to the table. Another detail that usually surprises people is the way you place the napkins; either with an original napkin ring, folding them in a different way, putting the names of the diners, etc.
What can and cannot be combined? Mixing colours, styles, products...
There is no accounting for taste, so you can combine everything with everything. However, what I like the most and what I think is what usually triumphs because it never goes out of fashion, is having a good neutral base on which you can add the right decorative pieces. By having a base that is not very marked, you can play with the furniture and place a more original and particular armchair that adds character and personality to the space. Play with complementary colours, but always look for a balance so that the space is attractive and not too visually overloaded.
What is the first thing you notice when you enter a house? What is your favorite room in the house?
When I enter a house, my gaze unconsciously falls on the living room. If it is open to the dining room, I also look at it, as I think that they are the two most important rooms, since they reflect the identity and personality of the owners of the house and it is usually the nerve center of the house. I look at the sofa, the layout, whether it is tidy or not and whether the lighting is good, since I consider that these are the most important points to take into account.
A little tip for those who want to stay up to date...
What are the current trends? How can you adapt to them, but at the same time choose styles and products that don't go out of fashion quickly?
Nowadays, you will find plants and all kinds of vegetation inside houses. Natural materials such as stone and wood will not be lacking, along with large windows to maximize the entry of natural light. After all, trends are fleeting and finding something that is timeless and does not go out of style is complicated, but not impossible. It is true that homes have to adapt to the current needs of each person and achieving a look that does not become outdated is quite a challenge. I always recommend having a neutral base on which to play with the rest of the furniture and decorative elements. If you want to go for it with the walls, you can always put up wallpaper, which you can always remove when you see that it is no longer in fashion.
